As a graduate from George Fox University with a BS and MA in Education, I was fairly confident I knew the path my life was going to follow. Almost 20 years later, I find myself exactly where God would have me to be and a pathway behind me that includes a few years teaching 5th grade students, a few years working in youth ministry, a few years teaching pastors in Rwanda and currently serving as the Lead Pastor at Journey Church. I couldn’t have predicted how the Lord would get me here and I also wouldn’t trade a minute of it.
My wife, Natasha and I, along with our three kids, Sam, Allie, and Brady live here in Sherwood. Natasha is a 5th Grade teacher at Archer Glen Elementary and all of our kids attend school here in Sherwood. As a family we love to spend time with friends and family and enjoy doing almost any outdoor activity. We are also big fans of the Seahawks, the OSU Beavers, and Chick fil a.
Worship Ministries Director
I have a massive sweet tooth, enjoys summer more than any other season, and can tell you the story line of every “Little House On the Prairie” episode just by looking at the title. Me and my husband, Mark, along with our three children, are deeply grateful to be a part of Journey Church, and sincerely believe that we all need Jesus and each other.
As a singer, songwriter, and worship leader, I have spent the past 15 years sharing music as a meaningful way to communicate. After receiving a B.A. in Christian Ministries from George Fox University and a M.A. in Teaching from Western Oregon University, my vocation has been comprised of teaching high school, performing, coaching vocal students and choirs, counseling, mentoring, and leading worship music at churches, seminars, and retreats in the Pacific Northwest.
Student Ministries Pastor
“Let us consider how to stir up one another towards love and good works. Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” Hebrews 10:24-25
Community and Development are my buzz words for student ministry. I want to create a safe place for our youth to grow together in Christ.
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, I am currently a graduate student at George Fox University seeking my masters in Clinical Mental Health. My wife Gwendolyn and I enjoy hiking, exploring new cities, brunch, and photography.
I love connecting people to transformational community with others, with Christ and with themselves. Discipleship only happens in relationships and the deeper we engage those relationships the deeper the love of God will set within our hearts and be evident in our lives. Relationships are what I've found the people of Journey Church to be about.
Michael Simmons is from Knoxville, Tennessee. He holds a master's degree in Intercultural Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Michael, Liz and their daughter Bina (which means wisdom) live and work at George Fox University here Michael manages the campus bookstore and Liz is an Area Coordinator in Student Life.
Community Life Pastor
Nothing makes me feel more alive than when people come together to share life. I’m grateful for a long heritage of leadership and ministry in my life, and I’m even more grateful to serve alongside some of the best people I know at Journey Church. It’s a privilege to partner with what God is already doing in Sherwood and at Journey. Thanks be to God.
My husband, Patrick, and I moved to Newberg, Oregon almost 9 years ago. I graduated from Portland Seminary in May 2014 with a MA in Ministry Leadership, and I feel that I've finally found my sweet spot of community and ministry. We love to travel and explore new places, enjoy sports of all kinds, long walks on the beach, and gathering in our home with our small group.
Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, I met my three true loves in life: Bo (my awesome husband), Jesus, and quality Tex Mex food. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Business, focusing in marketing and nonprofit management. After working in the nonprofit communications field and volunteering with local churches, I took time off to move across the country to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and raise my energetic sons, Levi and Owen.
You can often find our little family scarfing down donuts, walking to the library, drinking an embarrassing amount of lavender chai lattes, cheering on the high school sports teams, and playing at dump truck park. My love language is breakfast tacos (preferably smothered in queso) and anything involving live music. We are so thankful to have found a church family right within our corner of Oregon.
I am a home town girl, raised in Sherwood, and currently residing in Newberg with her husband, Michael, and our son, Jace. I have the privilege of being a stay at home mom, and when I’m not playing make-believe or cooking meals, you will probably find me with a book in my hands. I am passionate about creative writing and story-telling; especially if there is a link to God’s amazing character and His Story for us. I love spending time with my family and friends, and making wonderful memories in God’s adventurous outdoors.
I earned a B.A. from George Fox University in Christian Ministry with a Children’s Ministry emphasis, and my passion is to see the next generation rise up with an unquenchable fire for God. Michael and I have been with Journey from the start; melding together two loves…ok really three…Jesus, people (I love to hear the story that makes you, you!) and having a home church to do ministry together with my husband.
I graduated from ITT with a degree in Computer Drafting & Design. My goal was to become an architect; however, God led me down the path that was a little different than I anticipated. I now work for Diversified, a top AudioVisual integration company, managing a drafting team for the western region. An AV nerd at heart, I love that I can geek out—using my passions at work and at church. Journey has given me the opportunity to use my talents to worship God through a different avenue. When everything comes together…the instruments, vocals, and congregation…all as the perfect blend of worship, it’s like getting a glimpse into heaven here on earth.
When I’m not behind the sound board, I can be found enjoying life with his wife, Alisa, and son, Jace. Watching my son grow, explore, and laugh has been by far, one of the best experiences! One of my other happy places is out in God’s green earth, exploring…the best places are the roads unpaved! If I’m not wheeling in the mountains, then I am on the coast—rock crawling with my RC. Oh, and don’t forget about the Ducks and Broncos!
